SCOPE AND OVERVIEW
The focus group shall collaborate on relevant environmental issues ie. The Environment and Health Officer must liaise with other EXCO officers on Environment and Health matters that impact other Focus Groups within WPRA and setup the necessary discussion forums to find common ground and to initiate resolution of these matters. (e.g Tree pruning, affecting Service Delivery.)
The Focus Group Officer must ensure that projects undertaken are approved by the Board of Directors before commencement.
Objectives include:
- Waste management in public areas – parks, shopping centres and other related public amenities.
- Recycling – education of public from learners to adults on environmental issues.
- Motivate shopping centres to offer recycling bins for paper, glass, plastic, and cardboard boxes.
- Sewerage affecting water sources – what can be done to prevent this seeping into all water sources.
- Drive the removal of invasive species of trees on public land.
ESG – Encourage communities to start vegetable gardens. - Educate community members about food and nutrition.
- Contribute to a more resilient food system.
- Support social cohesion and build a sense of community.
- Offer job training and economic opportunity for low-income individuals and families.
- Promote safer neighbourhoods by repurposing vacant lots and lands into attractive spaces where both people and plants can flourish.
- Suggest sustainable projects – must ensure proper project planning and project management of overall projects.
- The focus group shall collaborate on relevant health issues ie.
- Management of health risks within public areas – check bylaws as to what can be done to mitigate these i.e. public toilets, etc.
- Education of public from learners to adults on health issues.
- The Environment and Health Officer through its Focus group must always strive to encourage positive, respectful and orderly conduct by Members of WPRA and never support or condone violence or negative protest action.
- Suggest and manage sustainable projects – must ensure proper project planning and project management of overall projects that apply to these principles as determined by the Board of Directors.
